When Luc and I first started co-creating Rooted Resilience, there was a recurring theme in our conversations. We were each already separately exploring what it meant to work more closely in alignment with the rhythms of the seasons. We didn’t have the luxury of simply giving ourselves a vacation in the winter months. We also knew the capitalistic gears would continue to turn. There was a delicate balance between growing this work to be able to thrive inside of this system while also going back to our roots as humans connected to the larger (and frankly more important) rhythms.
Now as we arrive on the other side of the longest night of the year - Winter Solstice - we are putting our values into action. No - we won’t pause all of our work until March 20th when the Spring Equinox arrives. That’s the timing for another very important date for our work - the beginning of the launch of our podcast! What we are doing, is giving ourselves a break from today until January 3rd. We’ll be pausing our social media and Substack engagement, and while we might tinker with bits and pieces of this archival project separately in moments where it feels joyful and playful and an organic part of our day, there are no meetings, interviews, or emails scheduled.
Resting is our right, not to be earned (thank you Nap Ministry) and is key to all forms of creativity and resistance. And in the season of Winter, this is the time to connect into the slowness and stillness that we see around us in the natural world. This is time to just let the snowflakes fall around us, the time to slumber for as long as we need to without alarm clocks or meeting schedules. This is the time to sink in and *listen* to ourselves. For as much as we can, as often as we can, in a world where everything keeps moving at a rapid pace.
There is privilege in this, we know. And we hold that privilege with care and awareness. Many in our community will not have this ease or this sanctuary. We envision a world where that is not the case - where we can collectively shift into alignment with the seasons. Where our wildness can be tended through rest in this season. And so we also hold gratitude for the privilege, in this moment, to be able to rest. And to rest in such a way that the roots of our work thrive because of it - and therefore our community does too.
Thank you for choosing to give your time, energy, resources, and attention to the process of growing Rooted Resilience.
Looking Ahead to 2025
We know the road ahead won’t be without challenges, but we’re here to celebrate and center the creative resistance of our communities. Together, we’ll continue to honor the legacies of our ancestors, and we invite YOU to join us:
As a listener
As a reader
As a party-goer
In dialogue
Through your own acts of creative resistance.
2025 brings more interviews - including the addition of three new guests to our lineup of Creatives! We’ll be spending countless hours editing our interviews and partnering with our Creatives to build substantial and dynamic content for our Substack blog that brings them to you in a different format. We’ll be celebrating the launch of our podcast with a very special party in the Spring. We’ll be holding community dialogues each month after the launch to listen deeply, be inspired, build community and amplify the voices of those who trusted us with their stories. And we’ll be working on cultivating relationships with local and regional businesses for sponsorships to support the ongoing costs of production and archiving.
Let's stay connected and keep the energy alive—here’s to a 2025 filled with community, celebration, and resilience!
