Weekly Update: The roots of Rooted Resilience and a chance to share your story with us.
This week, we are asking ourselves and our communities why preserving and amplifying 2SLGBTQIA+ narratives is so very vital.
We will send out a brief digest of the week’s activities each Saturday morning.
Leave us a comment, we’d love to hear from you!
We want to hear your stories of queer, creative resilience.
Who would we be, were it not for each other?
In a world that often tries to silence and scatter us, we are here in this region - vibrant, dynamic, and authentically ourselves, in all of the mess that it is to be human in these times.
We know there are magical things you are thinking, doing, and saying, that we have never engaged with. We know there are more narratives to be shared than what we can fit into one season of our project. We know that your voice belongs in our shared collective history.
Email us at rootedresiliencepod@gmail.com or re-stack this post with a note commenting in response to any of these queries:
When you think about 2SLGBTQIA+ narratives being preserved today, what do you hope future generations will take away from hearing these stories?
What do you, as a 2SLGBTQIA+ individual, need to hear from the narratives of those in our community?
What tidbit do you want to share with those in our community about you and how you are creating and rooting in these times?
Voice memos and writing not your thing? Don’t fret - we’re working on a schedule of community events where we’ll be available to connect with you in-person!
Co-Director Reflections:Where did this project come from?
The reasons behind this project extend beyond our history of knowing one another and are deeply rooted in the connections we’ve fostered, both personally and professionally. Here’s a glimpse of the ‘why’ that continues to drive us forward as co-directors of Rooted Resilience:
A word from M:
“If I could only name one thing in my life that has been deeply important and transformative to me, it has been the act of listening, fully and wholly, to the narratives of others - their heartbreaks, their joy, their confusion, their inspiration, their moments of giving in and those of digging in, and how they are who they are now. In the past few years, I’ve seen with more clarity just how AH-MAZING our community is and how much we have to learn by leaning into each other during these times. This multimedia project is one avenue for just that - for us now, in this moment, and for the generations to come.”
A word from Luc:
“I started my career by telling the stories of those who were no longer with us (hi, museum nerd here!). What always drew me in was discovering the who, how, and why behind the art. Today, I’m honored to collaborate with people right here in this valley, a place that has long nurtured artists and creatives who defy the mainstream. Many have given us incredible, life-changing works that shape our world. I want to invite us to celebrate artists while they’re still with us more often—centering their voices, stories, and creative contributions while we are still here together.”
We hope you will join us in this endeavor of sharing our rich history by responding to our call for stories (above) and engaging with us here!
